Singer’s Vocal Health

What do we do during a voice regeneration process?

We sing with more than our voice. The singing system is a rich ecosystem. Every alteration in one of the parts alters the others. We use it in our favour. In the sessions , we integrate the following topics:

Restoring vocal functions

Most of the voice disorders show up in the superficial layer of the vocal folds.  Constitution and mobility of this layer is affected, and also voice sound, as a consequence: the smooth onset turns breathy or hard, voice sounds can be brittle, ability to sing piano or messa di voce is reduced, just to put some examples. Reducing friction, pressure and performance stress until mobility is activated is the first step.

Substituting compensating maneuvers.

Singers are voice sculptors.

When the voice begins to fail, singers tend to stabilize with subtle increases in pressure or tension in order to get to the target. This happens often at an unconscious level.

In our sessions we bring them to consciousness and replace them with options that are healthy and acoustically efficient.

Voice, senses and body integration

We don’t have a body, we are a body.

All steps during the process are intertwined with bodily work through movement and balance, to stimulate ease in singing and keep the body permeable to the needs of the voice (and make your practices efficient and refreshing!).

Voice Control

As singers, we deal with muscles that are not directly controlled, but driven through intentions and bodily (interoceptive and somatic), proprioceptive and auditive sensations primarily. Getting them to work towards ease and fluency, in precise coordination is a sensitive work (and interesting and exciting!).

Emotions & Thoughts & Nervous System

Nothing can be pulled apart. Emotions imprint our singing experience. Thoughts moderate the singing experience, in our favour or against us. Reflecting on the way we guide ourselves through situations where we feel under pressure, makes space to reframe them if necessary. Working at sensory level, you will discover tools to regulate your singing experience, to dismantle perfectionism and to deal with stage and practice anxiety.
